Hello. Today I’m posting a visual example of this quote of Gontcharova’s from 1913. It’s from her epic Moscow show where she showed nearly 800 things and made her one career defining written statement. She didn’t particularly exhibit much so she never had the occasion to issue any other manifesto type statements. It’s actually sort of incredible how she carrie’s out what she says at this juncture considering her long prolific career that follows. I’ve referred to this document many times and to this particular quote so I apologize if you’re sick of reading it but it’s my sense that through repetition is the only way to learn and to have an idea firmly take root. She says in part “I will fear in painting neither literature nor illustration...I will endeavor on the contrary to express them vividly and positively through painterly means”. Right!? She is not afraid of story telling or illustrating a point. Have a look.
